15. Sunset walk, Sea Point Promenade

Young and old gathers here to enjoy the late afternoon sea breeze every day. The famous promenade runs all the way from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay. The air is fresh, the atmosphere is buzzing and the sunsets beautiful!

You will find people of all aspects of  Cape Town society at the Sea Point Promenade – people jogging from one end to the other, children playing happily, families walking their dogs and Jew ladies socializing on the benches.  This is Sea Point, and the area represents the unique blend of Cape Town with its many different colours and people. The promenade is at its busiest over sunsets and an afternoon walk is a refreshing end to the day.

For the more adventurous, it is possible to walk all the way from the V&A Waterfront along the coast to Bantry Bay – a long but very relaxing and beautiful city coastal walk. There is only a small section between the Waterfront and Mouille Point where you would need to walk on tarred road and not on the promenade. Lions Head rises beautifully on your left, and the noise of the ocean and seagulls is music to the ears. Try to be at the Sea Point side for sunset, and don’t forget the camera.

How to get there

From the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) (corner of Coen Steytler Ave and Buitengracht street) turn onto Western Blvd (M6) towards Three Anchor Bay. You will soon reach the ocean as the road becomes Beach Road. The most popular section of the Promenade is located between London and Queens Roads, off Beach Road.
